Abstract:

The tunnel spillway of the Feitsui Reservoir Project near Taipei has a head drop of more than 110 m, and maximum discharge of 1,500 cms. For prevention of cavitation in the tunnel, an air slot is installed at the upstream end of the elbow section of the tunnel. Hydraulic model of 1:60 ratio for four different designs of the air slot have been tested. On the basis of their hydraulic performances, the final design selected from the four tested is of 120 cm deep by 73. 5 cm wide and has an upstream ramp 21 cm high and a downstream recess of 15 cm. Pressures and water surface profile were measured in the model of the final design. Numerical simulation was carried out to further confirm the results of model tests.
