Abstract:

The 'Minimum Technology Guidance on Double Liner Systems for Landfills and Surface Impoundments' issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in May 1985 attempted to incorporate current state of the art liner design technology into hazardous waste disposal facility construction. Actual detailed design and construction experience is now available to help bridge gap between design guidelines and the practical limits of constructability and performance. The article reviews the conclusions drawn from previous projects.
