Abstract:

The results of over 200 horizontal plate load tests performed in situ in large diameter boreholes on gravels at various relative densities are used to develop a relationship between deformation modulus (E) and SPT blow counts (N). The results of statistical analyses show that the expression E equals 2. 22 N**0. 888 fits the data with a correlation coefficient equals 0. 99. Limitations of the relationship and cautions regarding its use are discussed.
