Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Ports '86

Abstract:

Four schemes are presented for transferring container cranes around a corner: 1) transfer of crane on curved rail, 2) recessed short-radius shuttle, 3) recessed turntable and, 4) at-grade short-radius shuttle. A case history is used to illustrate the decision making process for selecting the correct scheme. Port authorities are cautioned that all schemes must be thoroughly reviewed for each site since the conclusion reached is entirely dependent upon site conditions.
