Abstract:

The close relationship between ship characteristics and terminal design is recognized and should be considered as integral part of the total transporation. Ship characteristics to be considered are dimensional requirements and constraints, ship handling, and ship motions. Methods of predicting and studying ship dynamics in the port environment are reviewed and are illustrated by the presentation of typical case studies.
