Abstract:

The dynamic response of an elastic cylindrical tank supported on a rigid base under a harmonic vertical excitation is analyzed taking into consideration its interaction with the foundation soil. In an earlier phase of the study, the soil was represented by frequency-independent parameters, and the two coupled differential equations, governing the motion of the shell and the base, were solved using a step by step time-integration technique. In the present phase, a more representative solution for the problem in the frequency domain is obtained by appropriately modeling the soil by frequency-dependent parameters.
