Construction Management of Small Hydro Projects

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '85

Abstract:

A major driving force in the small hydro industry is the corps of private entrepreneurs actively engaged in the development of small hydro projects. While many of these developers are astute businessmen, not all are familiar with the engineering, procurement, and construction complexities of their projects. And others, while capable of performing the construction management role, do not have the resources (nor the desire in some instances) to manage their projects on a full-time basis. This paper outlines the functions that a construction manager performs and the benefits an owner can derive from using a CM. Qualifications that an owner should seek in a construction manager are also discussed.
