by Peter J. Pountney, Pountney & Associates Inc, San, Diego, CA, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Infrastructure for Urban Growth

Abstract:

The need for increased infrastructure maintenance and rehabilitation is now well documented at all levels of government. However, obtaining the funding necessary to remedy known and anticipated deficiencies is proving to be most difficult. In an effort to overcome the funding shortfall, the California State Council of ASCE formed a statewide infrastructure committee charged with the tasks of creating a greater sense of general public awareness of this problem, and encouraging governmental agencies to provide adequate and reliable sources of funds for infrastructure facilities. The San Diego Section took the lead on this committee, and in the preparation of a Statewide Position Paper on Infrastructure. This paper discusses the section's efforts and approach to the project.
