Abstract:

The Fortuna Dam is a 60 m high concrete face rockfill dam located in Panama, designed to be built in two stages. This paper describes the construction of the first stage dam, 60 m high, completed in February 1982, and it also presents the design elements of the raised stage dam, 100 m high. It will consist of raising the dam another 40 meters up to 100 meters with an additional 2,000,000 cubic meters of rockfill, extending the concrete face slab up to maximum final dam crest level 1056. 7 and building an ungated side channel spillway at the left abutment.
