Abstract:

The following text describes the experiences of a small suburban municipality located in Middle Tennessee before, during and after a five-year program of comprehensive inspection and testing for the construction of roadways. As a measure of the success of the program, the maintenance costs associated with the municipality's roadway system are analyzed for approximately the five-year period which occurred prior to initiation of comprehensive inspection. These costs are then compared to maintenance costs which have been incurred on roadways constructed under the municipality's comprehensive inspection program.
