Part of: The Role of the Resident Engineer

Abstract:

The authors explain that the resident engineer is on the front lines regarding claims and claims avoidance. The resident is in a position to develop a relationship of trust and confidence with the contractor and owner through fair dealing and prompt action. Through that relationship the resident can head off potential disputes and minimize the impact of those disputes which inevitably do arise. A thorough knowledge of the contract documents and a good system of record keeping and documentation are essential to the resident's ability to properly deal with claims.
