Wall/Floor-Slab Interaction in Brickwork Structures

by A. W. Hendry, Univ of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: New Analysis Techniques for Structural Masonry

Abstract:

The paper summarises the results of three series of tests on sections of brickwork structure carried out with a view to determining the characteristics of wall/floor slab joints in terms of fixity and resulting eccentricity of loading in a wall. Methods of calculating eccentricity and wall strength are discussed and it is shown that in practical situations eccentricities are likely to be small and capacity reduction factors close to unity.
