Abstract:

A research study was started at the Politecnico of Milan (Italy) to investigate the influence of the main governing parameters on the behaviour and strength of flexible frames. A sophisticated numerical procedure for the analysis of such a category of frames was developed. The paper intends to present, the very first results obtained, related to single story portal frames. The main problem discussed is the effect of the accuracy of the prediction and modelling of the joint constitutive law. The influence of different design criteria is also examined.
