Abstract:

The Maintenance and Control Facility (MCF), a single building complex for the Detroit Downtown People Mover (DPM) system, incorporates the people mover system's transit vehicle maintenance facility, the vehicle automatic storage yard, the vehicle cleaning and inspection facility, and the system's operation control center. The MCF also contains one of two system substations and one of thirteen planned system passenger stations. Some of the significant problems encountered in the planning and design of the MCF complex, as well as some of the unique operational features incorporated into the facility, are presented.
