Abstract:

The subject of aesthetics tends to focus general perceptions regarding the public acceptability of proposed Automated People Mover (APM) projects. It is therefore important to carry out defensible visual studies which incorporate public values and respond to local concerns. This paper discusses some approaches and issues for integrating visual assessment with public involvement as part of the project planning and approval process for APMs, emphasizing the role of visual simulations in workshop settings as a means of two-way communication.
