Abstract:

Thermal dilution is a variation of the indicator dilution flow measurement technique, utilizing heat as the indicator. The measurement is accomplished by performing a heat balance within the flow. An investigation was conducted to determine the feasibility of the indicator dilution method of discharge measurement using heat as an indicator in small irrigation canals. This paper reports the results of a flume study applying the theory of thermal dilution to open channel discharge measurement.
