Abstract:

About 200 miles of the 780 miles of recreational beach in Florida are in a critical state of erosion. Local financing of beach restoration offers a viable funding alternative for communities faced with critical erosion problems. This paper concerns a proposed locally funded beach nourishment project for Captiva Island, Florida and discusses the general design and engineering aspects of the project as well as the plan for financing.
