Beach Erosion Mechanics

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Zone '85

Abstract:

Beach erosion along the coasts affects economic, political and conservation conditions. This paper defines the mechanics of the Coriolis Effect, caused by earth spin, along with storm or trade wind interactions which result in beach erosion or accretion. These Coriolis erosion or accretion characteristics are compared with empirical erosion data obtained from agencies of North and South Carolina along with aerial photographs of the Little River inlet with good agreement.
