Abstract:

The New York District of the Corps of Engineers, under the New York Harbor Drift Collection and Removal Project, is in the process of removing unused and dilapidated piers along a portion of the Brooklyn waterfront. Major development for maritime use is occurring at various locations and the drift removal program is an integral part of some of the projects. In other areas non-traditional maritime use and new marine related used are being developed. This paper discusses plans for many of the specific facilities in order to illustrate where the drift removal project can provide impetus for certain development and where the project will not have a major impact.
