Abstract:

This paper outlines detailed studies that have been performed on recently completed projects to assess the fill sediment redistribution and profile response. This compilation of data has shed new light on project behavior, identified important monitoring criteria and provided a calibration of the standard design criteria. Present detailed field studies of sand beach organisms together with experimental studies of burial tolerances of important species have provided much of the data needed for biological impact planning for these projects. The recommended guidelines developed from this study should provide new insight for design and permitting of future projects.
