The Role of Nonprofits in Coastal Conservation

by Stephen F. Harper, State Coastal Conservancy, Nonprofit, Organization Assistance Program, Oakland, CA, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Zone '85

Abstract:

The California State Coastal Conservancy's Nonprofit Organization Assistance Program is a unique vehicle through which private land trusts and other nonprofits have become integrally involved in the implementation of California's coastal zone management program and coastal land conservation efforts generally. With the thought that other states may wish to develop a program along similar lines, this paper, written by the Nonprofit Program Manager, explores various aspects of that program's history, accomplishments, and accumulated experience.
