Abstract:

Recent improvements in the real-time acquisition of hydro-meteorological data have raised concerns regarding the quality of the data received. Water users having practically instant access to conditions in the field, are making water control decisions whose impact could be devastating if invalid data are used. This paper presents several techniques used in the verification process and reviews their performance. The discussion is limited to real-time data verification; thus, the techniques used are without the aid of human intervention via graphic analysis or complete time series statistical analysis. The real-time analyses described are already operational at over five locations throughout the United States.
