Abstract:

Development of hydrological database management is investigated in this study. Lotus 1-2-3, a commercially available database, which makes use of spreadsheet has been used to solve a broad range of hydrological problems on microcomputer. Through the use of the database, any change in data or modifications can be made interactively and globally at a glance. This article explains how database can be applied to hydrological problems. Special emphasis is placed upon the spreadsheet and the macros, their potential to fully automate the use of the database as well as their limitations. Applications are drawn to problems such as hydrograph analysis, backwater calculations, river and reservoir routing, water quality and even some stochastic hydrology problems.
