Abstract:

The U. S. Department of Transportation's Urban Mass Transportation Administration and Transportation Systems Center have played an active role in assisting the U. S. rail transit industry in developing, evaluating and promoting the implementation of improved vibration and noise control technology. The major results of the federal program are reviewed. Examples of the implementation of these results by the transit industry are highlighted.
