Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Drilled Piers and Caissons II

Abstract:

Bentonitic slurry is employed extensively in the construction of drilled shafts. While serious problems can occur, evidence is presented to show that the proper use of slurry will lead to excellent performance of drilled shafts under axial loading. Desirable properties of slurry are given and the action of slurry in stabilizing an excavation is reviewed. Several examples of specifications for the control of slurry are presented.
