Abstract:

A survey is based on the work of the Research Committee of the ASCE Technical Council on Cold Region Engineering and findings in a number of previous reports on research needs in cold regions engineering. In particular, the problems of organization of research and the implementation of its results is of concern. In general, it is found that excellent reports on needed research in this area exist at present, but information on their impact on the research and engineering community is still lacking. It is suggested to undertake a fact-finding survey, which would eventually result in publishing a joint U. S. -Canada Inventory of R&D Capabilities for Civil Engineering in Cold Regions.
