Abstract:

The development of Beaufort Sea fields requires construction methods and equipment for pipeline installation and trenching providing a balance between safety, reliability, and economy. Pipeline design factors relating to the need for thermal insulation and the economic trade-offs of different materials are discussed. In addition, requirements of burial depth in the transition zone and the methods of obtaining them are discussed. Both winter and summer offshore construction methods are included. Because of short operating seasons, methods that combine installation and trenching are attractive.
