Abstract:
The use of the probabilistic simulation technique to estimate the variability of the resistance and the ice load on arctic gravity structures is illustrated in order to assess the safety and reliability of a hypothetical caisson-retained island. The results are then compared with the deterministic approach. The example design is one in which both the ice load and the foundation resistance vary with time.
