Abstract:

The concept of pumped storage can be justified through the development of hydro-thermal power plants. The hydraulic equipment for power plants of this kind is available in the market meeting the needs of a variety of field conditions. Benefits arising from hydro-thermal power plants far exceed those derived individually when installed either as hydropower or thermal power plants. In order to make such a plan work on a national level, it is recommended that the Congress of the United States adopt a uniform policy to allocate Federal funds for planning and construction of hydro-thermal power plants with pumped-storage facilities.
