Abstract:

Performance tests were conducted at Great Northern Paper (GNP) Company's Weldon Hydroelectric Station. The purpose of the tests was to calibrate the Winter-Kennedy taps and to evaluate the efficiency of the units in order that an energy optimization system may be implemented. This system will maximize the electrical output of the station for a given river flowrate. The overall (water to wire) efficiency of the turbine-generator was determined from measurements of electrical power output, gross head, and flowrate.
