Part of: Water for Resource Development

Abstract:

Computer modeling of flow and ice conditions in a river is an important element in the planning of water resources project in northern regions. River ice processes are closely related to both the ambient weather condition and the river flow condition. One-dimensional modeling of the river ice process is discussed. A brief review on the present knowledge of thermal processes, ice cover formation, undercover transport and accumulation, and the breakup process is given.
