Abstract:

A 1:12 scale Froude model of a hydraulic control structure in the Rochester Combined Sewer Overflow Abatement Program (RCSOAP) was constructed and tested to optimize the design requirements for three operational modes. The prototype is required to convey pressure and open channel flows. The structure must also provide a means of energy dissipation when transitioning from pressure flow to open channel flow operation. Testing with clear water and with model sediments scaled from sample data indicated the need for geometric revisions and provided insights into proper prototype operation.
