Abstract:

The establishment and operation of a distorted movable-bed model of the cooling water intake and outlet is described. The model employed is a three-dimensional movable-bed Froude model for prototype depths less than 20m. The objective of the model study is to investigate the performance of breakwater arrangements which will stabilize the cooling water intake and outlet, i. e. , protect from excessive shoaling caused by the seasonal wave action, the hurricane wave action and the littoral drift. Two arrangements of breakwaters for treating shoaling problem are made. One is the groin type. The other, the combination of a detach and groin type is the optimal solution to littoral transport problem.
