Abstract:

In addition to the determination of capacity and layout of hydraulic structures under normal design, one other important but related task that faces engineers is the evaluation of reliability. Total risk in water resource engineering mainly comes from inherently random behavior of hydrologic processes, and design and operation of hydraulic structures. Two general dynamic reliability models considering both inherent hydrologic and hydraulic uncertainties are developed. The two models can be reduced to the traditionally used risk models when hydraulic uncertainties are ignored.
