Abstract:

The ATLAS POLARFIX is an entirely new dynamic position-fixing system for short-range, large scale surveys. It is a range/azimuth laser-based system using only a single shore-based tracking station. The measurement and tracking process is continuous and automatic. The data are transmitted to the ship by means of a built-in telemetry link. The system needs no on-shore operator since all functions of the tracking station can be remotely controlled by telemetry.
