Abstract:
These guidelines serve to improve professional employee satisfaction through mutual understanding with the employer. The manual is divided into four sections: (1) guidelines to professional employment?? revised 1978, (2) professional grade descriptions?? adopted 1975, (3) recommended salary ranges?? revised 1975, and (4) recommended benefits?? revised 1979. Section one covers recruitment, employment, professional development, and termination and transfer. The professional grade descriptions are divided into nine levels, ranging from junior engineer to firm partner; federal G. S. equivalents are supplied. Recommended salaries are determined as the product of a base entrance salary times an appropriate salary multiple. Benifits excluding overtime amount to an average of 36.5% of base payroll. The benefits explored include: vacation, sick leave, deferred profit sharing, professional dues, insurance, education and separation allowance. This manual was prepared by the ASCE Committee on Employment Conditions, and it is No. 55 in the ASCE Manuals and Reports on Engineering Practice series.
