Abstract:

The Florida Department of Transportation encountered petroleum contamination in the right-of-way of a large highway construction project in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. In order to avoid costly project delays, they set up a ground-water recovery system with deep vertical wells and high-recovery rate horizontal drains that cleaned the site in three months. This is considered to be the first use of this fast remediation in these soil types.
