Abstract:

This monograph, Wave Forces on Inclined and Vertical Wall Structures, contains 14 papers from nine countries. The information on these coastal structures was gathered so that uniform but innovative design practices will eventually emerge throughout the world. These papers include such topics as wave runup and overtopping, wave reflection, wave forces, placed block revetments, berm breakwaters, inclined structures, vertical breakwaters, composite breakwaters, and ice loading. The presented analysis methods are based on improved empirical formulas, advanced experiments and rapidly-expanding numerical models. The proposed new design approaches incorporate probabilistic, optimization and integrated design methods. The monograph provides both practical and theoretical information to disseminate new design approaches and methods to coastal engineers and researchers worldwide.

Subject Headings: Wave overtopping | Wave runup | Wave reflection | Wave forces | Coastal protection structures | Breakwaters | Walls
