Abstract:

The structural system for the 52-54 East End Avenue project is presented. The 40 story residential tower with as aspect ratio of 12: 1 is one of the most slender buildings constructed to date. The 3 meter (10') cantilever overhang for the south face of building added to the effect of the high aspect ratio created a need for rock anchors at the north face of the structure. The effect of eccentricity of gravity, creep, construction tolerance, and cracking of concrete were included in the final sway analysis and safety factor determination of the building.
