Abstract:

A method of analysis for composite building frames subjected to repeated and reversed lateral loads has been developed as part of an overall investigation of seismic response of composite structural systems. In developing the method, the cyclic behavior of the principal structural components, including composite beam, column and joint, was evaluated and analytical procedures were established to provide predictions of their force - deformation relationships. Parametric studies of the component behavior and comparisons with the available experimental results followed. Hysteresis models have been developed for these components and implemented in a frame analysis computer program. The paper presents a description of the models and their application in static analysis of cyclically loaded frames. Also presented are the analytical results of three sample frames.
