Abstract: In order to operate the rapid sand filter in response to the time variation of effluent quality, a model and a procedure to predict the filtrate quality of rapid sand filters have been developed and they have been verified by the simulation using the experimental results of Eliassen. The simulated results prove that the procedure using a simple model may be practical for operation of the facilities.
