Abstract:

The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) on NSW is currently examining options for replacing its Driver Aid System on the F6 Tollway south of Sydney. On this road drivers are affected by severe fog conditions for over 250 hours each year. Prior to the design and installation of a new system, the Authority is undertaking trials to identify the current behavior of drivers and options available to reduce the risks when traveling in fog. This paper provides details of the trial and the development for the 'intelligent' sign.
