Abstract:

This proceedings, Pacific Rim TransTech Conference-Volume 1: Advanced Technologies, consists of papers presented at the conference held in Seattle, Washington, July 26-28, 1993. A number of major areas are included: 1) Lessons learned from advanced technology applications; 2) advanced data collection and processing; 3) incident detection; 4) real-time traffic control; 5) advanced technologies in public transport and commercial vehicle operations; 6) traveller information systems; 7) environmental improvement and safety through advanced technologies; and 8) standards and legal issues. In identifying the growing trends of multinational dependence, the increasing need for improved transportation systems and the wealth of knowledge and experience from all the countries in the Pacific Rim, this book provides the foundation to continue building a truly international approach toward shaping the future of surface transportation systems.
