Abstract:

The present paper describes an experimental study of the wave slamming force on a horizontal circular cylinder located near the free surface. The vertical force on a cylinder and the corresponding wave record are measured for impact by regular waves of different heights and periods and for varying elevations of the cylinder. These are analyzed to provide results relating to the maximum slamming coefficient as well as other related parameters such as the rise time for the maximum impact force.
