Abstract: This paper presents a simple method for designing multiple stage outlets for detention basins. The method is based on formulas which were derived for the rational and modified rational hydrographs which are extensively employed in the urban stormwater management practice. The method is applied to a detention basin-outlet system which was designed based on an SCS 24-hour hydrograph. A summary of routing computations using all these hydrographs is also presented for comparison.
