Abstract:

This study refers to application of an artificial intelligence technique to evaluate geotechnical design parameters in the soil design definition. This complex evaluation is incorporeted in an expert system framework by using the rules of the reasoning process in a knowledge base developing a data bank suitable to be easily accessed and updates an a run-time base. Some of applicable experts' 'rules of thumb' for estimation of design soil parameters are identified. Such an experts' reasoning scheme is organized and structured in a rule-based format to allow for an easy and effective implementation in the proposed framework.
