Abstract:

The dynamic stability and the seismic response of general beams are examined, by discretizing the structure to a set of rigid bars, linked together by means of elastic constraints (Cells method). The influence of the Kelvin-Voigt internal camping and of the follower forces on the stability behaviour is numerically investigated. The dynamic response of nonclassically damped beams under synchronous or asynchronous ground motions is also sought, and the introduction of additional dissipators is shown to deeply influence the forced response of the structure.
