Issues in the Use of an Expert System for Teaching

by Slobodan P. Simonovic, Univ of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Water Resources Planning and Management and Urban Water Resources

Abstract:

This paper describes an expert system called SYSES which has been developed at the FIDS laboratory at the University of Manitoba. SYSES is intended to be a teaching aid for undergraduate courses dealing with analytical operations research techniques. While it does not provide theoretical or advanced information about the optimization techniques, SYSES does afford a hands on learning experience which complements the lecture material of a formal classroom setting.
