Abstract:

Many researchers and engineers have examined the problem of optimal operation of hydro-electric systems in order to exploit the potential of electric power generation. At the same time, there is a desire to enhance the reliability of the hydroelectric systems. A great number of projects of optimal reservoir operation have been conducted. One of the most successful projects is the Optimal Dispatching for Zhexi Hydropower Station in Hunan Province of south-central China. This work has brought a remarkable economic benefit since its implementation. According to the statistical data of the Ministry of the Energy (formerly Water Resources and Electric Power), the optimal dispatching increased the amount of electric-generation by about 2,000 MKWh each year comparing to previous operations. In this paper, the major techniques which have been applied by the authors' to the optimal reservoir operation problem in China are discussed.
