Abstract:

HDM-PC, a microcomputer adaptation of the mainframe Highway Design and Maintenance Standards Model (HDM-III), is a powerful analytical tool for the engineering-economic evaluation of road investment and maintenance programs. The model can be used for a variety of applications: economic assessment of road investment and maintenance programs, pavement life-cycle analysis, pavement management, cost allocation studies, and road transport pricing. The purpose of this paper is to describe the model, the range of applications for which the model may be used, the data and hardware requirements, and some limitations on the use of the model. The paper includes typical data inputs and a sample of outputs obtained from model application.
